According to chrysler’s performance division, SRT (Street and Race Technology), there are more than 150 road racing circuits across the United States, and it has built a limited edition version of its flagship Viper roadster to take maximum advantage of the fact.
Developed in collaboration with a select group of professional racers, only 33 examples of the Viper TA (Time Attack) will be built: all finished in brilliant ‘Crusher Orange’. And focused purely on improved track day performance.
While output from the Viper’s 8.4 litre V10 remains unchanged at 477kW/814Nm (you need more), focus has been applied to the hand-built two-seater’s suspension, brakes and aero performance.
Built around the lightest base Viper, the TA picks up a series of existing components and systems plucked from the SRT range.
The suspension is upgraded with dual mode, electrically-adjustable, Bilstein Damptronic shocks, plus stiffer springs and fatter anti-roll bars. As well, the structural alloy X-Brace spanning the engine bay has been swapped out for a carbonfibre version.
Brembo brakes are as per the Viper ‘Track Package’, with 355mm ventilated, curved fin, two-piece slotted rotors at both front and rear ends. Rims are ultra-lightweight alloys wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa rubber (295/30 18 front, 335/30 19 rear).
The Aero Kit includes a carbon front splitter and rear spoiler, while inside, fibreglass shell seats are able to accommodate three or six pint harnesses, and are trimmed in black Sablet “Ballistic” trim.
Despite the additional equipment and tech, the TA weighs in at 1518kg, three kegs less than the base Viper SRT and 12kg less than the top-spec GTS with optional Track pack.
To be built at chrysler’s Conner Avenue plant in Detroit, the TA will go on sale in the US in the third quarter of this year.
